Installation of B&B Trees and Shrubs
- Dig the hole 2 to 3 times wider than the rootball.
- Hole depth should be 2-3inches less than the root ball depth so the top of rootball is positioned 2-3 inches above finished grade. CAUTION: Overdigging hole depth and back filling may result in undesired settling.
- Place tree upright in hole and start back filling with existing soil
- Remove burlap from the immediate area around trunk.
- Back fill a few inches at a time and water in back fill to remove any air pockets.
- Insure that the root ball is adequately watered before finishing the tree.
- Stake the tree only if on a windy site or severe slope.
- Mulch an area at least six feet in diameter around the plant. Do not put over 1 inch of mulch over top of root ball.
- Remove the nylon strapping by the end of the first year.
- Insure that the plant is adequately watered through out the year.
- Start your fertilization program as the roots become established in the soil.
